Whether in early music, classical, contemporary opera, music theatre, chamber or electro-acoustic repertoire , Camille Hesketh is a versatile soprano whose performances have taken her across Europe, to Canada, the US, South America, India and China.

 

Currently residing in Burnaby, Canada, Camille completed her Bachelors degree at the Vancouver Academy of Music, and her Masters at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Netherlands.  She also holds a Bachelor's in education from Simon Fraser University and is contract voice faculty at Douglas College, New Westminster.

 

She is an avid collaborator in new works, and in addition to her ongoing work with Canadian composers, she has performed in international premieres with companies and ensembles such as the Dutch National Opera, VocalLAB Nederland, Muziektheater Transparant, (Belgium), Modern Baroque Opera, (Vancouver), Schönberg/Asko Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Ensemble MAE, Den Haag Slaagwerk, Ensemble Klangart (Germany), and in festivals such as the Zwolle and Rotterdam opera festivals (NL), the Aldeburgh Festival, (Snape UK) and the Vancouver Symphony New Music Festival. In the electro-acoustic arena, she has worked closely with composers and institutions such as John Chowning for the CCRMA concert series at Stanford University, Richard Karpen at the DX concert series at The University of Washington, Piet Jan van Rossum (NL), STEIM Amsterdam, and Vancouver New Music,  in addition to performances in several electro-acoustic festivals throughout South America and Europe. She has sung under the baton of such conductors as Martyn Brabbins, Fabio Bonizzoni, Daniel Reuss, Pierre Boulez and Henk Guittart in Schönberg's Pierrot Lunaire at the Banff Centre.

 

With further post- graduate studies in early music from The Hague, Camille has performed in many early operas across Europe and Asia, and her duo with lutenist Guzman Ramos was recently awarded "One of 5 most promising ensembles" from the International Young Artist Presentation in conjunction with the Laus Polyphoniae Festival in Antwerp, Belgium. She can also be heard on the record label Harmonia Mundi with La Grande Chapelle, (Spain).

 

Camille has received several awards for her research in contemporary vocal music and performance from both the Netherlands and the Canada Council for the Arts, most recently including a commission with composer Graham Flett and Vancouver's Ethos Collective, and for research in physical theatre practices for singers. In addition to her musical life and commitment to teaching, Camille has researched physical theatre applications to vocal and musical performance with numerous ensembles and institutions including  the company 'Manifesto Poetico' led by Carlos García Estévez, the École Internationale de Theâtre Jacques Lecoq, Paris, and Odin Teatret, Denmark among others.
